Hip Hop Artist danny G Talks About Social Media’s Affect on Mental Health In “lose my ce

Gaining quick traction after his recent releases “reeboks” and “run it,” Nashville flow-pop artist danny G is back with a hard-hitting new single “lose my cell phone”. In “lose my cell phone”, danny embraces his vulnerability by being mindful of the ways that modern technology and the demands of our current world take a toll on mental health. Most recently, top tier publications like Complex, Lyrical Lemonade, Forbes, and The Source have highlighted danny’s ability to pair relatability with an uplifting pop/hip hop sound. In an effort to be transparent, danny prioritizes authenticity in a society that often hides behind Instagram filters and impulsive Facebook statuses. In lyrics like “Don’t wanna carry expectations in my pocket // My black mirror isn’t really being honest.” he feels like he carries the weight of the world; and with this, danny encourages a much needed break from technology in order to disconnect so that he can reconnect with himself and those around him.

The release will pair with a grassroots challenge, motivating people to put down their phones and pay attention to what’s in front of them. danny and his fans will take to Instagram and TikTok to ask the tough question ‘How much time did you spend on social media today?’ The challenge is meant to boost awareness of how tuned in we are to our online presence when what we need to strive for is balance. Our mental health is #1 and if time on social media has a negative impact on this, it’s important we reevaluate how often we spend looking at a screen.

To match the lyrical sentiment, we see this echoed in the production of the song as well. “lose my cell phone” uses physical instruments while leaning less on digitally produced elements. The track’s hook embodies a choir-like atmosphere paired with melodic harmonies asking: “does anybody know who i am. i can’t even tell, if i don’t wanna be somebody else. i might need to lose my cell… phone.” As the song progresses, piano chords keep pace behind a kick-push beat while initiating a dialogue about the everyday struggles of mental health as it pertains to the demands of society. As technology advances, human interaction tends to take second priority. danny does an excellent job of addressing the consequences of technological expansion and how it psychologically disrupts the human lives that it was originally intended to help.

danny G’s lively music has garnered a steady flow of support since 2019. He has landed on popular YouTube channel Rap City, TIDAL editorials’ Alternative Hip Hop’ & Rising Hip Hop playlists, as well as multiple Spotify editorials. Leaning into his uniquely coined ‘flow pop’ sound, danny continues to offer fans a seamless combination of relatable pop and hip hop. Previous collaborations include Travie McCoy, Xuitcasecity, and Cam Meekins. His positive flow has also captured the attention of local outlets like No Country For New Nashville and cable TV network WSMV’s Today In Nashville. Effortlessly surpassing expectations, danny remains authentic in both his mission and his music.
