Matti Roots Stays Positive In Moments of Imperfection With “Perfect”

It’s been a little while since Matti Roots released his critically acclaimed debut album BeatRoot back in 2011. Since then, he’s gained a serious reputation as a songwriter and producer, but has never stopped writing material for himself, releasing a slew of singles in 2020. That momentum isn’t slowing down as Matti Roots recently released his funky single “Perfect.”

The song is sonically poised as a modern, retro-pop tune with lyrics that embrace hints of imperfection that exist in everyday life. The production is driven by a groovy bass line and accented by pops of synth chords, percussive textures, and electric guitar riffs. The lyrics are light-hearted to compliment the fun atmosphere of the production. Lines like “I won’t pretend that I just need a friend and I don’t care” and “I just hope I will find a solution” are elated perspectives of facing flaws and how, instead, you can be honest with yourself and accept no one is perfect.

Over the last 6 years, Matti Roots has mostly been in producer mode, working with stellar names such as Dua Lipa, Kojey Radical, Sampha, Mugun, Bento BDA and newcomer Rebecca James (signed to Janet Jackson’s Imprint) and countless others. In 2017, BeatRoot was re-released by Audio Network, which led to his track “Let’s Get Back Together” finding its way onto the Spotify Global chart, peaking at no. 33 and accruing over 1 million streams. His music has been featured on massive TV ads such as Samsung, Ray Ban and FIFA and hit TV shows such as Power and Brooklyn 99.
