While we tend to shy away from featuring highly established artists on the site in favor of pushing the up and coming, sometimes a jam lands in our inbox that deserves a share regardless of the artists industry stature. Since their 2014 hit, “Selfie”, first brought The Chainsmokers into the mainstream consciousness, they have been unstoppable – touching the biggest stages in the world and topping charts worldwide, the NYC duo has continued to evolve since the parody EDM banger that put them on the map and have more recently become heavyweights in the commercial Pop arena.
With a number of hits under their belts, The Chainsmokers continue to turn out quality tunes and collaborate with some of the dopest artists out – both well established and on the rise. Their latest offering sees the duo team up with Ty Dolla $ign and buzz-worthy dark Pop star bülow (one of our personal favorite new artists) on, “Do You Mean”. The smooth, laid back R&B leaning tune sees all parties lending vocals to the track helping to create beautiful dynamics and even fresher harmonies. As soft pads fill the background and melodic intricacies come and go, the tunes production remains extra minimal, allowing the vocals so sit front and center.
A bit more R&B than I have heard from both The Chainsmokers and bülow, and more dance poppy than most of Ty Dolla $ign’s tracks, the new release seems to bring all artists involved a bit out of their comfort zone – which I think only adds to the tunes overall appeal. Everyone comes together in prime fashion to create a vibey, saucy, smooth ass jam.
