A Diss Record in Disguise

Toronto artist Shan Vincent de Paul digs in deep on his latest release, “The Sacred“.  When I first found it in my inbox, I was taken mostly by his flow and melodies, but the more I listened, the more the weight of it all sank in.

Through his vocals and the dark and eerie production, an overwhelming feeling frustration takes hold, emanating with every beat and every word.

When speaking to Mass Appeal about the song, Shan had this to say.  “It’s me trying to cope with betrayal and distrust for people I love.  Not trusting a stranger is easy, but not trusting someone you continue to love is a whole ‘nother demon—the song is me trying to deal with that. Trying to move past betrayal without becoming stone cold. It’s kinda like a diss record disguised in a healing song.

I’m sure this is a sentiment a lot of us can relate to, and he expresses it in a very impressive way… through a slapping record you can vibe out to, even if the lyrics are over your head.
