In the ever-expanding world of functional sound design, few projects have so artfully blurred the lines between science, emotion, and genre as Dreaming Dog. Conceived by Amman Ahmed—visionary founder of RelaxMyDog—and brought to vivid life by GRAMMY®-winning producer Antaeus in collaboration with Daniel of Mosadi, this album is a revelation. Ostensibly created for canines, Dreaming Dog instead occupies a rarefied space in which utility and artistry coalesce, producing a work as restorative for humans as it is for their four-legged companions.
From its first bars, Dreaming Dog makes its dual mission clear: this is music with a purpose, but it refuses to sacrifice depth or beauty at the altar of function. The architecture of each track is informed by meticulous, research-backed choices—tempos resting in the serene range of 50–70 bpm, softened bass frequencies for comfort, desensitization layers featuring the muted echoes of fireworks or children at play, and a deliberate absence of piercing high-end tones. Yet these choices do not impose limitation; rather, they invite subtlety. The result is a genre-fluid tapestry that weaves ambient electronica, lo-fi serenity, glimmers of Amapiano rhythm, and even the warmth of understated reggae.
The album is elevated by an ensemble of exceptional contributors whose artistry enriches its meditative core. Pianist Charu Suri—first Indian jazz artist to command five consecutive sold-out performances at Carnegie Hall—lends her crystalline touch. Greek vocalist Erini, with the fluid grace of a Cirque du Soleil alum, threads lullaby-like ornamentation through the textures. Joe Maldonado, GRAMMY-winning engineer for Pharrell, Nicki Minaj, and Charli XCX, captures and shapes the sound with precision, while multi-GRAMMY and Latin GRAMMY-winning mastering engineer Alex Psaroudakis delivers a final polish of uncommon warmth and clarity. Chris Sulit’s award-winning engineering adds further nuance, ensuring each note breathes in its own space.
What began as a project dedicated to the comfort of dogs took on deeper resonance with the passing of Mosadi’s beloved pet—a moment of loss that imbued the music with a sense of remembrance and quiet devotion. This undercurrent of tenderness runs throughout the album, making it feel less like a product and more like an offering.
With its release under the banner of RelaxMyDog—now part of Create Music Group—Dreaming Dog is poised to reach ears and hearts worldwide. But perhaps its most remarkable achievement is that, in serving the needs of one species, it has found a universal frequency. Whether you are human, canine, or any creature in search of a gentler world, this is music to exhale by.
