BIJOU and Tchami Keep the Night Alive With After-Hours Banger “6 AM”
Some dance records are meticulously planned. Others basically happen because the right people end up in the same car after a show. Thankfully, “6 AM” belongs to the latter category.
The collaboration between BIJOU and Tchami was sparked during Halloween weekend in Phoenix, when BIJOU played the then-unfinished track for AC Slater and Tchami on the way to an after-party. The reaction was immediate — and AC Slater apparently knew exactly what needed to happen, suggesting BIJOU and Tchami finish the record together.
Good call.
“6 AM” has exactly the kind of after-hours energy its title promises: dark, hypnotic and built around a groove that feels increasingly dangerous the later the night gets. BIJOU’s G-house instincts are all over it, while Tchami brings his own sleek touch to the production, resulting in a track that feels muscular without becoming overcrowded.
More importantly, it moves. There’s no unnecessary fuss here. “6 AM” understands that sometimes a dance track’s job is simply to lock into a groove, turn the room into a sweatbox and make everyone forget they were definitely supposed to go home three hours ago.
For BIJOU, whose catalog has long blurred the lines between house, hip-hop attitude and underground club culture, the collaboration feels especially natural. His chemistry with Tchami gives the track enough polish for festival-sized speakers while keeping the grimier edge that made BIJOU such a distinctive presence in the first place.
Maybe the best thing about “6 AM” is that you can still hear the spontaneity behind it. What started as an ID played between friends after a show became exactly what an after-hours record should be: confident, infectious and just irresponsible enough to make staying out until sunrise sound like an excellent idea.
