Chicago’s Most Versatile Hip Hop Artist Jovan Landry Releases Her First Official Instrumental

Chicago-based interdisciplinary artist Jovan Landry dropped her first public instrumental release right in time for Valentines Day. “Give U My Love” is the perfect fusion of Hip-Hop and Soul, including West Coast G-Funk melodies and an infectious bassline with talkbox vocal samples. Jovan tied the harmonies in herself, creating the feel good vibes associated with the Valentines Day season. In a way, it’s a love song to her supporters & the fans that have been with her since day one.

Jovan coins herself 1/3 filmmaker, 1/3 photographer & 1/3 emcee. Establishing her passion for the arts at an early age, she expresses creativity through music production, lyricism, film and photography. In the span of a decade, Jovan Landry has self-released five projects, taught numerous workshops, and has performed throughout the U.S and internationally. Jovan is the recipient of a WeWork Creator Award, a grant which she used to produce the first all-women produced & performed hip hop album Synergy which invited over 50 Chicago-based artists to collaborate with one another in the male-dominated industries in music and media. You can watch Synergy perform “Synergy Cypher Pt. 2” on ABC’s Windy City LIVE here.

Her ambition and genuine drive to create authentic, humanized content is simply unmatched. A big fish in a small pond, it’s clear that Jovan is on the verge of new milestones. Not one to limit her ability to produce new and unique content, this first ever instrumental release proves to lay a solid foundation for more to come. The music industry (especially Hip Hop) is primarily male-dominated, so for a female-identifying individual to persevere through the challenges that come with a being a public figure and prolific artist is not only impressive but encouraging to other female and/or non-binary individuals looking to do the same thing.

Jovan Landry’s accomplishments span over a decade with her earning the Nadine Sterk scholarship as well as the Presidential scholarship at her alma mater – Columbia College Chicago. Since then she’s placed 1st at TWZ Radio’s “She Got Bars” event. She was the Audience Favorite at the 2014 Columbia’s Got Talent contest and most recently, the recipient of the WeWork Creator Awards grant. Having also been included in NPR’s Hip Hop and R&B Artists to Watch in 2019, it’s clear Jovan has built a foundation that’s meant to springboard her to new heights.
