DYLYN releases latest single, the dark and immersive “Something to Lose”

Growing up on a steady diet of Led Zeppelin and Blondie, rising Toronto artist DYLYN (real name Gwendolyn Lewis) says she’s a “rocker girl at heart” and her latest single “Something to Lose” certainly proves she’s exactly that.

Produced by ongoing collaborator Colin Munroe (Kendrick Lamar, Sky Ferreira), the track follows the release of her 2018 EP “Sauvignon In a Kimono”, an 80s synth pop-influenced project led by breakout single, the dark-pop infused “Secret”. Having amassed an impressive 100 million YouTube streams and 2 million listens on Spotify, it’s clear the style works for DYLYN.

While her previous releases lean more into the glitz and glam of her Blondie influence, her latest single “Something to Lose” falls more into a stripped back, Led Zeppelin era of rock. DYLAN nails the art of transcending the bounds of genre with ease, with her Brody Dalle-esque, rocker vocals taking center stage, “Something to Lose” is a modern take on the grittier rock of yesteryear. It’s an intoxicating track about love and suddenly having “something to lose” laden with catchy hooks and a punchy drum beat.

Speaking of the inspiration behind the track, DYLYN shares “There seems to be a theme of an underlining darkness in this song, and most of the new record. I’ve enjoyed bringing out other characters that live within my spirit. It’s nice to dance along the dark side at times.”

Having spent much of 2019 in the studio, we’re excited to hear more of what DYLYN has in store for us in 2020. Listen to “Something to Lose” on Spotify below and stay up to date with all things DYLYN on Instagram.
