While California based, French-American duo Freedom Fry may be relatively new on my radar – they have been hard at work and topping charts for sometime now. Since first taking off on tour in 2015 with Belgian sensation Stromae and first finding success their 2016 single “Shaky Ground”, Freedom Fry have been racking up spins across airwaves from tastemakers at ALT 98.7, KCRW, KEXP, KROQ, WXPN, SIRIUS XM (Alt Nation & The Coffee House), BBC (Radio 2 & Radio 6), RTL2, and beyond.
With their signature sound blending influences from Folk to Pop and Alt Rock, Freedom Fry have been able to rack up over 50M streams on Spotify alone while continuing to tour across the country to sold out audiences. Recently, They have kept their hot streak alive with their 4th EP of 2019, titled, “Renegade”. The mid-tempo single brings everything fans have come to love from clean acoustic production to stunning harmonies and an overall undeniable vibe from beginning to end.
While the production remains minimal with guitar, bass and some keys, the vocals are designed to cut deep with every note. While the lyrics convey hope and an undying charisma, it is easy for listeners to simply get lost in the songs aura as brilliant toplines, haunting background vocals and memorable melodies take hold. This one is yet another brilliant release for the Indie hero’s who no doubt have a whole lot more in the works. I will be paying close attention.
