GAZAL Captivates With Debut Release “Running With The Lights Out”

After operating behind the scenes for a few years, singer-songwriter GAZAL takes a step into the spotlight. Lending her craft for top lines to YDE, George Alice, and East AV3, the Sydney-based artist bridges wistful and whimsical together on her debut single “Running With The Lights Out.”

The euphoric synth pop tune channels dark tones that contrast with its spirited lyrics. The production consists of layers of guitar riffs, heavy drums, and synth pads that build a moody atmosphere while GAZAL’s vocal stacks add to the tune’s transcendental feeling. Her sweet voice provides a glimmer of relief and a beam of light through the fleeting and fragmented soundscape she has created. Lyrically, GAZAL excels at crafting a story centered around the lack of perception and how it can drive you straight into uncharted waters. Though so much of the tune carries an eerie darkness, you can’t help but feel like there is a budding life force brimming at the threshold, emerging through the cracks just as the sun does at dawn.

GAZAL has been ruminating on her project for years, delving into the scattered feelings of nostalgia, growing pains and the art of second-guessing offer inspiration alongside contemporaries Mura Masa, Aurora, and Bon Iver. As GAZAL carves a space for introspection on the Sydney music scene, she fuses folk, grime, and pop, to curate a hybrid soundscape unified by her eclectic voice, which cuts to the core.
