Last year, with the release of their, “Warm Glow EP”, Minneapolis band Hippo Campus spent a lot of time on the road touring, putting their release schedule on hold to bring all they can to their live shows. Luckily for us, they were still busy writing and working on new music.
Originally written in December of last year, their latest release, “Passenger”, is a beautiful and ethereal Indie jam that is as intriguing as it is intricate. Produced by regular-collaborator BJ Burton (Bon Iver, Sylvan Esso, Francis & The Lights), the song showcases the band’s ever-increasing knack for soaring melody and dynamics.
About the tune, singer/guitarist Jake Luppen says, “Lyrically the themes deal with the challenges of growing alongside the person you love. For this song in particular I tried to challenge myself to write a more complex chord progression to sing to. I started off with a TR-8 groove and the rest followed pretty naturally.”
Along with the release came a massive tour announcement that will see the group playing some of their biggest rooms to date. See the schedule below and make sure you check them out if they stop in a town near by.
