JAM OF THE WEEK – Tayá – Skin (feat. Lotto Boyzz) [VIDEO]

Fast rising UK songstress Tayá has been writing and performing since a young age. Initially first scouted while performing live in Liverpool (her hometown), it wasn’t long before major labels and top producers started to take notice.  At just 19 she has already had the opportunity to work with the likes of Starsmith, Diztortion, Snakehips, Rodney Jerkins, Fisticuffs, DJ Khalil, Al Shux and Sango.

Her undeniable secret sauce is a mix of contemporary R&B melodies and harmonies, fresh urban/electronic production, sensual/seductive vocals, a clear musicality and a head turning look.  With tastemakers Annie Mac, Mistajam, Clara Amfo, Trevor Nelson, DJ Target, Toddla T and publications like i-D, The Fader, Mixmag, Wonderland, Notion, Hunger, Noisey and more already paying attention – I have no doubt there is a star in the making here.  Backed by powerhouse Atlantic Records UK, she has all of the wheels moving and all of the ingredients needed to become massive.

She has recently teamed up with buzzing Afro-Bashment duo Lotto Boyzz for a new single, “Skin”, and it has me feeling all sorts of sexy.  With the Lotto Boyzz opening the track with a few quick bars, Tayá quickly joins the party and let’s you know who is really running the show.  Producer Alan Sampson (Rita Ora, Zayn Malik, Craig David) lays the perfect foundation for Tayá – classic oscillating keys, flavorful percussion and a muted, bubbling bassline carry the perfect rhythm and bring a 90’s R&B vibe from the get.  To update it for current times, big 808’s and slapping drums take things up a notch and add a bit more of an edge to the otherwise smooth track.

About the release she states, “Skin signifies the point in a new relationship where it all feels really exciting and you feel ready to take it to the next level. In this case I’m talking about myself, but I think this can apply to anyone. It doesn’t matter who you are or how old you are, those butterflies never go. Everyone can relate to these emotions when it comes to L-O-V. It’s also one of my favourite songs to perform.

Along with the single comes an official video that is somehow even sexier than the tune itself.  Mood lighting and great camera work are all that are really needed and it is executed perfectly.  If you are unfamiliar with Tayá (as I was 2 weeks ago) it is the perfect introduction into her world.

This is some slow dance/ baby making / crushing hard / love of your life type ish right here – and I am all about it.  Tayá pulls you in from the first note with her infectious tone, refined power and heart touching melodies, pretty much guaranteeing that she will be running through your mind for some time to come.
