With a sound akin to Vance Joy or Maggie Rogers, Canadian artist Kaeley Jade is making music that combines a polished indie-pop production with lyricism that tackles life’s harder topics with a poetic finesse. Her latest single “Painless” is a shimmering, oh-so-catchy bop that showcases Kaeley’s velvet smooth vocals amidst a backdrop of memorable hooks and danceable riifs.
On “Painless”, Kaeley shares with her listeners the relatable experience of the fall-out that follows a relationship gone awry. ‘Painless’ is a continuation of the story I had told in my debut single, ‘Years Ago’,” says Kaeley. “All of my songs are sparked from my own personal experiences, and in this case, I had more to say on that particular chapter of my life. Where ‘Years Ago’ looks wistfully into the past at what could have been, ‘Painless’ is a seer’s look into a dystopian future. I wrote it as a reminder to myself to always trust my instincts, because some things just aren’t worth the pain that comes with pursuing them, as tempting as they might be.”
As a result of the ongoing pandemic, Kaeley and team had to get creative with the accompanying visual. Leaning into her background as a multidisciplinary artist, the end product is a playful, paint-splatter filled moment that was filmed entirely out of a mock studio in her father’s shop.
The single follows a breakout 2020 for Kaeley with the release of “Years Ago”. It was quick to make waves with her local community, finding its way into the regular rotation on 102.3 NOW! Edmonton, as well as popular Spotify playlists including New Music Friday, New Music Friday Canada, and Fresh Finds.
