MAUMAUMAU Gets Real With Us On “Famous”

LA-based, Mexican singer-songwriter and producer, MAUMAUMAU returns with his latest single, “Famous,” a buzzing, tongue-in-cheek track on imposter syndrome and the effects of fame on the human psyche.

The track arrives as the second release off Mau’s recently announced debut EP, Meow Meow Meow, which will be available on May 21, 2021 via AWAL. Alongside the news, the quickly rising artist unveiled “Curveball Whip Cream,” an anthemic song of perseverance detailing the sensation of always coming up short but somehow never giving up. The song, which is available now on all digital platforms.

On “Famous,” MAUMAUMAU shares: “I wrote Famous about a now well-known artist. We used to be really good friends and mutual fans. Like, hang 3 to 4 times a week, share ideas and visions, and just support one another. He blew up from one day to another and soon after we disconnected. That felt so out of character of him. It got me thinking about fame and the burdens that comes with it. That’s what this song is about. Its not angry or beefy or even resentful. Its just observant and pensive. Like if he heard it, I don’t think he’d be offended or provoked. Maybe it would lead to a conversation though.”

“Famous” arrives as MAUMAUMAU’s 2020 debut single, “Mouth Breather,” a song about the anxieties of life during the Covid-19 pandemic, quickly surpasses 60K streams. Last year, Mau also released “Heartbreak Police,” a commentary on police brutality and most recently shared, “B!l!ngval” in February 2021, catching the early attention of Medium’s Authority Magazine, Urban Latino, Teal Cheese, and Humankind Zine, who commented, “MAUMAUMAU is an endeavor that is made to last.”
