Unfortunately, sometimes life gets the best of me and I just can’t seem to find the time to get all of these posts up in time. Fortunately enough, it gives me time to rock to the tunes before posting… its about time I get to share this one with all of you.
Hailing from Denmark, up and coming singer/songwriter Mekdes has been spending an awful lot of time in my headphones with her recent single, “Right Direction”. At just 19, the impressively soulful artist has already turned down a deal from Warner and opted to sign to a much smaller, indie label – all to ensure her her creative freedom stays intact. Boy are we glad she did.
On her new tune, “Right Direction”, Mekdes not only impresses with her incredibly poignant vocal abilities, but also with her knack for melodies and impressively emotive lyrics. Like so many artists, Mekdes pulls inspiration from the world around her, often writing on the bus to and from school, making sure to get out every idea she has… exactly when they happen. On her debut single, “Right Direction”, this is exactly how the hook was created.
For some reason, picturing her recording hooks on a crowded bus makes us like her that much more. What I can tell you is that this is a stellar release for the young artist. On top of a lush, funky and soulful production, Mekdes absolutely dominates the track. Rich keys, rolling basslines, tense synths and smooth drum programming lay the bed for Mekdes to soar – and soar she does.
Make sure you keep an eye ok Mekdes and keep it locked on her socials…. I can’t imagine she doesn’t have a whole lot more up her sleeves.
