Moncrieff Leads Into Debut EP with ‘Like I Do’ [VIDEO]

There seems to be some sort of undeniable renaissance happening in the Irish independent music scene.  Over the last year, we have been blessed with a number of standout artists taking their first steps to international stardom.  Our latest favorite find from Ireland comes in the form of Moncrieff, a talented songwriter with raw, powerful vocals and a whole lot of soul.

Preparing to release his debut EP, “The Early Hurts”, at the end of next month, the buzzing artist has already garnered some major support with his first two singles from the likes of BBC Radio 1, BBC 6 Music, and Beats 1, along with a 13 week stint on the European Border Breakers Chart.  After a summer full of live performances, Moncrieff has recently unveiled his latest track from the project, a powerful, anthemic post-love tune, titled, “Like I Do”.

With elements of Rock, Soul and Blues, the new single relies on driving guitar rhythms, clean percussion and some angelic, choir-like background vocals to create a beautiful, emotional and universal tune that is sure to cross borders.  With his impressive vocals leading the way, Moncrieff pens a tune about trying to recapture a lost love.

About the tune he says, “‘Like I Do’ tells the story of a break up with an ex-partner with brutal honesty and sincerity. It always feels promising and a relief to have that moment of clarity about love, Like I Do is turning up at your exes door far too late and trying to win them back out of the hands of their new lover. Sometimes break up songs have a habit of being told with images and metaphors to help round off the edges and soften the blow a bit for the other person, but most of the time in real life it doesn’t work this way… in my experience and I’m sure in many others, when you break up, there’s tears, grit and angry words… there’s bitterness as well as care and love that hovers around and that’s what “Like I Do” captures: real feelings, bad times.
