Nadia Faye’s “Smoke in the Room” is a gorgeous haze of heartbreak and memory—like stumbling into a sunbeam thick with dust motes, only to realize each fleck is a tiny fragment of a love you’ve lost. The third single from her upcoming debut album Gardening, the track drapes Faye’s tender vocals in a lush tapestry of tape drum machines, warm acoustic guitars, and synths that shimmer like light off water.

It’s a sonic continuation of the intimate indie-pop she showcased on “Swallowing Spit,” but here Faye leans even deeper into vulnerability. Her confessional lyrics linger with devotional yearning, drawing you into private moments of nostalgia so vivid they’re almost cinematic. The ever-present pillows of guitar and soft melodic hooks swirl around her voice, making the whole song feel like a delicate sigh—aching yet strangely comforting.

“Smoke in the Room” captures that bittersweet ache of remembering what once was, with each note wrapping around you like a familiar ghost. If this is a taste of what Gardening will bring, it’s safe to say Nadia Faye is planting something beautiful and heartbreakingly real.
