NIKO BLANK is a name I have been seeing making the rounds over the last year or so. By releasing both bootleg and official remixes for the likes of Klangstoff, Honor, LAUV’s, MOONZz and more, NIKO BLANK regularly finds his releases at the top of the Hype Machine charts. Being familiar with his work, when I found his latest release in my inbox, I was already pretty sure it was something I was going to be featuring – even before I gave it a listen. Sure enough it didn’t disappoint.
The South Korean native is gearing up to release his debut project, “THE FRAME EP“, and as a taste of what’s to come he has unleashed the lead single, “Do U“, featuring Jacob Luttrell. The pairing seems to be a perfect match. While Jacob is already an acclaimed vocalist and #1 Billboard charting songwriter, the combination of his impressive R&B vocals with NIKO’s emotive Electronic vibes are undeniable.
The track is soulful, touching and unwavering with both artists showcasing top notch abilities on all fronts. While pumping, rhythmic, blaring synths carry the tune, supported by slapping drums – the contrast to the smooth yet powerful vocals creates a highly dynamic and appealing soundscape.
If this is any indication of what we can expect from his upcoming project… I will be paying close attention. Included in the roll out of the project are a video for this single dropping on the 27th and a short film set to drop the day the EP is released. It is easy to see that a lot of thought, planning and precision went into this project and I can say that personally I will be patiently waiting for it all.
