There’s a noticeable difference between an artist striving to prove themselves and one who has comfortably settled into their identity, which Raw Soul demonstrates throughout his new 9-track EP, Still High.... Grounded in patience, self-awareness, and lived experience the project reflects years spent refining both perspective and craft. Raw Soul approaches the project with the mindset of someone no longer pressured to force a breakthrough moment. Instead, Still High… plays like a snapshot of an artist who has found internal fulfillment and is now simply documenting the journey forward. Even when the subject matter turns introspective or heavy, an undercurrent of peace runs through the project, preventing it from becoming overly dramatic or weighed down by self-importance.

The EP delivers a reflective, storytelling style that fans of artists like J. Cole and early Kendrick Lamar will likely appreciate, yet Raw Soul never sounds derivative. His writing is conversational and thoughtful, rather than manufactured while themes of ambition, faith, exhaustion, perseverance, and personal growth weave naturally throughout, creating a cohesive body of work from start to finish. The centerpiece of the project is undoubtedly the title track. Rather than rushing toward hooks or flashy moments, the song unfolds gradually, allowing the listener to immerse themselves in its reflections and atmosphere. The production leans soulful and spacious, providing the lyrics room to breathe while maintaining a steady sense of momentum.

What makes Still High… especially compelling is how naturally it balances personal detail with broader meaning. Raw Soul touches on accomplishments, setbacks, and the strange emotional balancing act that comes with pursuing stability while still chasing purpose. References to significant milestones in his life never come across as boasting; instead, they’re framed as checkpoints within a much larger journey. There’s humility in the writing, paired with pride in surviving the challenging stretches that shaped him.

The project is less about celebrating success and more about understanding what that success truly means once achieved. Tracks like “Perseverance” bring a more motivational energy, but even the uplifting moments remain grounded in sincerity rather than empty inspiration. Raw Soul avoids clichés by allowing the music acknowledges struggle without romanticizing it, making it all resonate more deeply. Meanwhile, songs like On My Way introduce a more emotional tone, posing difficult questions about ambition, fulfillment, and the constant pressure to keep moving forward. The production throughout shifts comfortably between soulful textures, and classic Hip Hop grit, incorporating mellow melodies, and reflective instrumental passages without ever feeling disjointed. There’s variety here, but the EP maintains a consistent atmosphere throughout. Raw Soul clearly understands the sonic world he wants to build, and each track contributes to that vision without distracting from the overall experience.

In an era where many rap releases feel overloaded with unnecessary features, excessive runtimes, or attempts to go viral, Still High… feels refreshingly focused. At nine tracks, the EP never overstays its welcome, and that concise structure works to its advantage. Every song feels purposeful, adding another emotional layer to the narrative without filler or distraction. Raw Soul has spent years developing both as a musician and as a person, and it's this sense of authenticity that becomes the EP’s defining characteristic. By the time Still High… concludes, the lasting impression isn’t necessarily one of triumph in the traditional sense; instead, it’s the portrayal of one humans ability to stay focused and keep growing, regardless of the hurdles and setbacks he has faced. With Still High…, Raw Soul delivers his most complete and compelling project to date.
