Jamaican artist, producer, and creative visionary Runkus returns with SUPERNOVA, a sophisticated and expansive body of work that redefines the parameters of contemporary reggae. Both rooted in tradition and propelled by innovation, the album presents a multidimensional exploration of identity, transformation, and spiritual evolution.

At its core, SUPERNOVA reflects a period of personal and artistic reinvention. Through layered production, dynamic arrangements, and introspective lyricism, Runkus navigates themes of rebirth and duality—examining the tension between past and future, self and shadow. The result is a work that is as conceptually rich as it is sonically compelling.

“This project represents an evolution in every sense,” Runkus explains. “It marks the end of one chapter and the emergence of another, allowing me to approach music not only as sound, but as a fully realized artistic language.”

Integral to this vision is Runkus’ collaboration with Bahamian visual artist Tavares Strachan, whose multidisciplinary practice informs the album’s broader aesthetic framework.

Together, they create an immersive experience that extends beyond the auditory, positioning SUPERNOVA within a lineage of influential artist-creative partnerships, such as The Velvet Underground and Andy Warhol, as well as Kanye West and Virgil Abloh.

Musically, the album balances accessibility with experimentation. “SURE AS THE SUN,” featuring Sean Paul, offers a moment of warmth and optimism, while “SHEEP” incorporates archival stage audio from reggae luminary Peter Tosh, recontextualizing his voice within a contemporary sonic landscape. These moments underscore Runkus’ ability to honor reggae’s legacy while advancing its future.

Early critical reception has been overwhelmingly positive. Echoes Magazine awarded SUPERNOVA a five-star rating, describing it as “the most imaginative, progressive and totally mind-blowing album you’ll likely hear all year.”

With a career that includes a JUNO Award win, MOBO recognition, and GRAMMY®-nominated contributions, Runkus continues to assert himself as one of the most forward-thinking voices in Caribbean music. Born in Portmore, Jamaica, and raised in a deeply musical environment, his trajectory reflects both a respect for heritage and a commitment to evolution.

With SUPERNOVA, Runkus delivers a work that is not only musically ambitious, but culturally resonant—an album that invites listeners to consider transformation not as an endpoint, but as an ongoing process.
