Rising singer-songwriter and R&B artist Stephn has released his shimmering new single “Ultraviolet” alongside a stunning visual.
With production from Eddie Cascella and Cadeem LaMarr, “Ultraviolet” perfectly captures Stephn’s unique blend of R&B, jazz, and soul. Layering lush vocals over an atmospheric sonic backdrop of soft guitar loops and melodic horn sections, the new release serves as just a taste of things to come for this rising talent. It’s the first release, from his upcoming visual project, “Time, Time, Time”.
Written during the height of pandemic-induced introspection, “Ultraviolet” marks a new era for Stephn, both personally and artistically. He shares: “It has always been hard to me to share vulnerability because I am private about my general emotional, mental and even physical trauma but “Ultraviolet” brings it all to light and encourages me to heal all of it instead of dealing with/using various unhealthy coping mechanisms“
“Ultraviolet light is a form of radiation that is not visible to the human eye but is very present, also in sunlight. I believe this Ultraviolet light has been guiding me since I was 9 years old, growing and dealing with the pressure of anxiety, depression and even physical abuse. The way it shined on me each time let me know that I couldn’t fight healing and it is very possible for me to move on and continue to be a better version of myself. Ultraviolet light serves as a heavy reminder of healing for me”
With early beginnings as a freelance stylist in New York, Stephn realized his true passion was music, and in 2018, made the leap to a new medium of creative expression. Informed by his roots in fashion, the emerging talent pairs each release with a series of hyper-curated visuals, creating a full-sensory experience. Heavily driven by retro sounds and the soulful music of Sampha, Frank Ocean, and Toro y Moi, Stephn has been able to create a movement of his own through expression. Though a relative newcomer to the scene, Stephn has already started making waves for his live performances. In addition to selling out his first-ever EP release show, he’s also shared stages with the likes of Kari Faux, Mac Ayres, and Ari Lennox. Stephn doesn’t shy away from getting to the root of emotional vulnerability when creating his art.
