The Indie Folk artist from Newcastle Upon Tyne just dropped, “Rabbits“, and I was hooked at the first guitar note. Taking influences from The War On Drugs, Bon Iver and Fleet Foxes, Callum Pitt combines finger-picked folk riffs with a stunning falsetto voice.
The new tune is his third single and follows hot on the heels of, “Least He’s Happy“, which landed on Spotify‘s coveted New Music Friday playlist and also lead to a slot at Evolution Emerging 2017 and tour support slots with Meadowlark, Cape Cub and Isaac Gracie. Add on the BBC support on his first single, and Callum seems to be 3 for 3 – and for good reason.
Through beautifully laid back melodies and inspired vocals, “Rabbits“, develops over time, taking the listener on an intimate ride through the glistening musical landscape. The production and arrangement are absolutely perfect. Guitar, bass and drums churn along, playfully working off of each other to create a smooth and dynamic bed for the vocals.
At this point I am pretty sure that I am playing this song on repeat simply for pleasure and no longer to find inspiration for this write up. I may be done here… but the song will play on in my headphones.
