London based Future Soul sibling duo Tom & Nick Shirm, better known as Goldsmoke, immediately caught my attention with the release of their new track, “Where Do We Go.”
At first listen, I wasn’t sure what to think. Personally, I can’t tell you one other artist that I listen to regularly that has a sound even close to what Goldsmoke dropped in my inbox. Going against my first instinct (to turn it off), I let it rock… and as the track went on, the more I was hooked.
“Where Do We Go,” has a classic vibe, which in 2017 is super refreshing to hear. Not only is the track soulful, carried by catchy and seductive vocals, it is also funky and very danceable.
The production bubbles beneath the vocals, developing over time, bringing a great overall energy to the track. The dynamics in the track are on point. The intro – filled with pads, soft keys, funky synth leads and light snaps gives way to verses popping with a rocking bassline, bright lead melodies and soft (but sharp) rhythmic synths. The icing on the cake is the instrumental section lead by the bass, groovin’ along uninterrupted.
For what it is… everything in this tune is executed perfectly.
