Digging This New Joint from Sugi Dakks

I’ve said it before, but I’ll say it again… there is nothing I love more from new artists than originality.  Seeing where Sugi Dakks musical journey started, it is no wonder his sound is totally his own.

Sugi Dakks is the brainchild of LA based Kyle Donald, a college graduate in Jazz Piano Performance and Cuspi National Slam Poetry finalist.  It is this unique starting point which I believe gives Sugi Dakks a unique edge in the industry.  While you can clearly hear some influences (Kendrick Lamar, Anderson Paak, Eminem, Miles Davis) in his latest tune, “Stay”, he still manages to bring a refreshing vibe that is hard to compare to anyone else.

What serves as one track from his recently released debut mixtape, “The Business”, the new single sees Sugi Dakks bringing some vicious bars on top of an energetic, bopping beat laden with quick stabs, rapid fire hi hats and pounding 808’s.  Between the more Hip Hop leaning sections, he makes his Jazz training stand out front and center, adding just the right amount of relief from the otherwise driving tune.  About the single, he says, “It’s about being the life of the party and getting into all sorts of shenanigans to maintain the interest of a girl.

Dynamic, aggressive, yet smooth and groovy.  An all around jam.  Keep an eye on Sugi Dakks.
