It seems like every time I turn around, I have a new Canadian artist/group landing in my inbox and blowing me away. Recently, I was introduced to Indie-Alternative act Family of Things via their new single, “Harm“, and I have been thoroughly obsessed ever since.
Comprised of Brad Barnham (a musical theory-composition graduate and choral conductor) and Aaron Brown (a jazz performance graduate, producer, and drummer), working in collaboration with Peter Mol (Zerbin), the group has taken many shapes over the last seven years or so. Based in Hamilton, Ontario FOT has had sessions across the US and Canada, racking up publishing credits and sync placements along the way.
It wasn’t until 2016 that Family of Things released their debut 3 track EP, garnering praise and recognition from a variety of platforms, such as CBC, Indie Shuffle, Hype Machine, and Spotify. Now preparing to release their debut album, FOT is back with some more.
Their most recent release, “Harm“, is an anthemic and somber jam which sets the tone for the upcoming project and once again puts their undeniable musical abilities on full display. With lush guitars, powerful drums, earworm melodies and a driving unstoppable groove, there is not a thing here that I don’t love. Having worked its way to the top of my personal playlists, I am sure this will be a tune I will be rocking for sometime to come.
I will be patiently waiting for this album.
