While Minneapolis MC Lucien Parker May not have been on my radar until a month ago, I will 100% be keeping tabs from here on in.
One listen to his new single, “Round me”, that got dropped off in my inbox and he for sure has a new fan. Smooth melodic flows couple with impressive lyricism on top of a haunting and hard hitting production – all coming together to create an undeniable Hip Hop jam. Lucien Parker has slowly but surely been making an impact with a string of single, racking up hundreds of thousands of plays, landing some major playlist support and continuing to tour in both the US and internationally. On the performance side of things, Lucien has shared the stage with major artists like Anderson .Paak, Ab-Soul, Brother Ali, Alex Wiley, KAMAU, Waka Flocka Flame, Doomtree, Trapo, Kweku Collins & more.
About the track he says, “Round me is a conversation. It’s a code. It’s shape shifting and maneuvering and working just a little bit harder to survive. It’s my anger towards our racial climate with just a sprinkle of my traumatic experiences within it. I wanted to talk about companionship and loyalty, to give credit where credit is due. This is as much a race conversation as it is a gender conversation starting with my sister who helped raised me and my mother and her partner, my step mother, and my best friend, my girlfriend, and our friends who ride when the system tries so hard to put us down. I tried to create something impactful with a punch but smooth within a pressuring environment. It’s like my Floyd technique as a writer. I want you to feel every single word…”
